About ME

Nikki Brooke, a science fiction author and scriptwriter from Australia, champions bisexual representation in books and films. A proud bisexual herself, Nikki challenges stereotypes, drawing from her own journey of self-discovery. Refusing to be confined by societal expectations, Nikki embraces the complexity of her identity, breaking down misconceptions and defying conventional beliefs about bisexuality with each stroke of her pen.

Her writing talent has earned accolades, including finalist in the 7th Annual Launch Pad Prose Competition and semi-finalist in the ScreenCraft Cinematic Book Competition. Several of her short stories have found homes in anthologies from various publishers.

Nikki’s debut dystopian novel, “Plagued Lands,” is due for release November 2024 and a film adaption is in the works with Crow Knight Films. This dystopian masterpiece promises to captivate audiences with its stark portrayal of a future built on deception and greed. Through her work, Nikki endeavors to pave the way for a more inclusive and diverse literary and film landscape.

With her boundless creativity and unwavering commitment to authenticity, Nikki Brooke stands as a trailblazer in the world of storytelling, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of audiences everywhere.

Nikki Brooke has lived in London, England and Austin, Texas but currently resides in Melbourne, Australia with her two dogs, Osiris and Apollo. With names from ancient mythology, it’s no wonder they believe they are in fact gods and are allowed to do anything, including wreak havoc. Nikki lets them get away with it.

As well as writing, Nikki enjoys reading, watching films, swimming, dancing, learning to speak Spanish, and she especially loves having adventures; which is where a lot of her inspiration comes from.

Usually they just pop into my head. I have always loved stories and daydreaming and overthinking. All that coupled with an overactive imagination is bound to come up with a few tales. Most of those tales don’t ever become a story and I forget them almost as quickly as I thought of them. Sometimes my ideas are just extensions of my own life, like how a conversation might play out, or how my life would be if I’d made a different choice or never met my friends. I’m sometimes inspired by other writers, sometimes it’s my friends and family, other times I use writing prompts (there are loads online), and I also get ideas from breakthroughs in science.

I have so many favourites, but my all-time favourite novel is Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. It was the first story (book, tv show or movie) that ever made me cry. It had the power to move me in a way I’d never experienced before. It was this book that made me become a bookworm and solidified my dream to write. And for that it will always have a place in my heart.

Impossible! I could never choose only one. Some of my favourites are Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff, Sherryl Jordan, Matthew Reilly, John Marsden, Claudia Gray, and Suzanne Collins.
